BSW Timber Solutions, one of the UK’s leading timber processors and a member of BSW Group, has committed to reducing its greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions by signing up to Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) framework.
An internationally recognised framework, SBTi independently assesses targets and helps companies contribute to climate action, demonstrating our own commitment to sustainability and the reduction of emissions.
Central to our pledge, and following a rigorous validation and approval process, we have outlined the following near-term targets:
- BSW Timber Solutions Limited commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 61.37% by 2030 from a 2021 base year. *
- BSW Timber Solutions Limited also commits to reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions 25.0% within the same timeframe.
- BSW Timber Solutions also commits to maintaining no deforestation across its primary deforestation-linked commodities.
SBTi is renowned for providing a comprehensive set of standards, tools, and guidance that offer a clear framework for businesses to set near-term and net-zero targets based on the latest climate research. Their robust validation service, meanwhile, gives companies confidence in their target, providing essential support for effective decarbonisation efforts.
Climate change remains one of the greatest risks, but there is still a critical window to limit its most severe impacts. By acting collaboratively and rapidly to reduce GHG emissions, we can mitigate the escalating consequences of rising temperatures. Establishing these targets therefore underlines the dedication of BSW Timber Solutions to creating a more sustainable future. We are dedicated to delivering meaningful climate action and driving positive change across our industry.
Bruce McKay, managing director of BSW Timber Solutions, said: “As a timber business, with nature at the heart of what we do, we recognise the critical importance of science-based climate action. We are proud to align our decarbonisation strategy with the SBTi framework and are committed to tackling greenhouse gas emissions to achieve our targets.”
BSW Timber Solutions will release annually our SBTi Progress Report to communicate the actions and progress we make towards meeting our targets.

*The targets only include energy and industrial emissions; the FLAG emissions have been excluded. The company will include these emissions in a FLAG target once a pathway for timber and wood fibre is available.
