A BSW Fort William based employee beat off competition from around the country to win the Under 25’s Career Development Award at last week’s Timber Trade Journal (TTJ) Awards in London.

Jamie Duncan, who has successfully completed his Saw Doctor apprenticeship and is now a qualified Saw Doctor at the Corpach site, clinched the award following his exemplary attitude while studying towards his qualification.

Tony Lockey, BSW Group Learning and Development Manager, said: “Jamie has shown incredible focus and determination to gain his apprenticeship through a period of pandemic and he had very positive comments from the Inverness College assessors who said it was a pleasure to work with him.

“This is the 2nd year we as a group have entered this competition and the 2nd year, we have won this title. It highlights the calibre of all our apprentices in the BSW Group, the training they receive both in the workplace and in the colleges as well as the positive promotional effect this type of award gives to the local community in which Jamie grew up in and now works.’’

Olly Stephen, Mill Manager at BSW Fort William, added: “I am delighted for Jamie to receive this recognition, he has put a lot of hard work and effort into completing his apprenticeship and should be a real inspiration to his peers and other young people in Lochaber on what can be achieved when you put your mind to it.”

Over 300 people from across the timber product industries gathered for the event at the InterContinental London Park Lane, with comedian and champion quizzer Paul Sinha, best known for his appearances on ITV’s The Chase, as host.
