beX (Built Environment Exchange) is a platform for students with a passion for sustainable construction. It provides industry internships, MSc scholarships and employability projects with the goal of accelerating change in construction culture.
The group was visiting Scotland due to its heritage utilising timber and timber frame within construction and to look closely at the use of sustainable construction systems to deliver sustainable communities in the face of the UK’s housing crisis.
Christian Monrad, Primary Operations Manager, at Boat of Garten, said: “It was an honour to be able to host students from one of the world’s leading universities and to give them an insight into the environmental way in which we operate as the UK’s largest sawmiller.”
They also bring together International Universities and construction industry partners, to develop dynamic talent and deliver experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate, early career postgraduate and doctorate students.
beX participants learn to harness the new skills required to positively impact future changes in construction delivery and construction technology. With the aim to attract and develop talented graduates who will lead the sustainable communities of tomorrow whilst decarbonising the economy.
As well as touring BSW Timber's Boat of Garten mill, the students also visited Cromarty Firth Carbon Dynamic factory and the Falkland Estate.
