BSW Timber trebles treatment capacity at Newbridge sawmill
October 18, 2007
The installation of a new treatment facility at BSW Timber's Newbridge sawmill will treble the treatment capacity at the Welsh site.
The facility, which is now fully operational, means that BSW Timber has the capacity to treat up to 90,000m3 per annum at the sawmill in Newbridge on Wye.
To maximise the production capacity and customer service, the facility incorporates a tilting tank and can offer both Green and Brown treatment. In addition the design is such that future development to incorporate low pressure treatment will be possible.
Initial forecast production volumes are in the order of 42,000m3 per annum and BSW Timber can now set its sights on increasing the volumes of treated products in the coming years.
Paul Barham, Chief Executive of BSW Timber, said: "This investment demonstrates our commitment to the Newbridge site and reflects our confidence in the future. This upgrade will enable us to significantly boost the treatment capabilities at Newbridge and ensure that the sawmilling business evolves with our customers and services their demands.
“Customer demand is fuelling the need for a more diversified and higher quality end product. BSW is committed to continuous customer service improvement and as the UK market leader, we are meeting this growing demand for more value-added timber by increasing investment in all our six sawmills across the country.
“These new tanks will allow us greater efficiencies and increased capacity for timber treatment."
BSW Timber has forged ahead with a wide range of improvements to its sawmill at Newbridge-on-Wye, which employs 100 people.
The first development phase at the site has seen more than £4 million invested in site infrastructure - including timber storage areas, new kilns and planing facilities, new co product handling equipment and new cross-cutting technology. This includes a substantial investment in the refurbishment of plant and machinery on site.
