BSW Timber’s Faversham Town Rangers off to winning start

September 22, 2006

The BSW Timber-sponsored Faversham Town Rangers kicked off their season with its first competitive win.

The under-8 side, which is playing in the Faversham and District Friendly Junior Series, secured a commanding 10-1 win against Sturry.

The league team is based on mixed ability with every boy playing in all games.

Keith Chilvers, coach of the team, and spokesman for Gill & Robinson, said: “We are grateful for the support of BSW Timber and the company’s sponsorship of the team.”

He added: “We do not select on ability as we believe the whole basis of football at this age is to have fun and learn at the same time. As a club we normally do not start to select teams on ability until they are ten or eleven years old at the earliest. As for their prospects for the future, I am sure that they will prove difficult to beat.

“We have two or three very talented players in the team who will help to bring the others on in terms of skill and attitude, but you can’t always tell who will develop.”

Bryan Crennell, marketing manager at BSW Timber, said: “We are proud to be supporting the Faversham Town Rangers and wish them luck in the under-8 league. Many of our staff have children who play football so it is appropriate that BSW Timber stepped in to help the team.”
