BSW Timber behind bird boxes and hides

August 1, 2006

BSW Timber gave a team from BBC Springwatch a helping hand to build bird hides and boxes at an event last month (June)..

Britain’s largest sawmilling business supplied timber for the hides and boxes at the popular Springwatch in Kielder Forest, Northumberland.

The BBC North-East team constructed the hides while members of the public and celebrities were invited to autograph the floors.

The hides will be used as information points for people watching wildlife at the Chopwell Forest and Kielder Forest festivals.

Bryan Crennell, Marketing Manager at BSW Timber, said: “BSW Timber was pleased to be involved with Springwatch because wood plays a vital role in supporting wildlife such as swallows, robins and blackbirds. Wood is a fantastic environmentally-friendly product with excellent green credentials.

“BSW Timber has a proud track record in sourcing its products from sustainable plantations, which are themselves home to a variety of bird life. The company was delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile cause.”

He added: “Bird hides also play an important role in educating people about the value of wildlife. We take our responsibility to the environment very seriously. Initiatives such as BBC Springwatch are an excellent way of demonstrating the significance of birdlife in forests across the UK.”

Kielder is the largest forest in England and covers an area of 62,000 hectares, of which four fifths are planted in one large unit.
