Safety First for BSW's New Sideloaders

As part of an ongoing commitment to customer service, operational efficiency and health and safety, BSW Timber, the UK's largest sawmilling company, have taken on six new sideloader trucks for it's mill at Newbridge on Wye. Valmar Handling Systems supplied the Jumbo sideloaders selected by BSW Timber.
Alex Brownlie, BSW's Head of Operations in Wales, commented "We are very pleased with the new sideloaders. They are strong, stable and robust improving site efficiency and providing a safe and ergonomic environment for the drivers". He added, "BSW have worked closely with Valmar to ensure that the trucks were produced to a high specification as required by BSW.
After extensive trials where the site drivers drove a number of machines from different manufacturers the Jumbo machine was chosen as the vehicle best suited to meet the specific needs of the business.
With the trucks in place, the formal hand over from Valmar to BSW has included a full programme of familiarisation training for drivers and management. In addition to the maintenance and support provided by Valmar, BSW Timber have developed an in-house operational and service management system to ensure maximum uptime for each truck and that best practice is developed and maintained across the Group.
BSW have leased a further six front loading forklift trucks from Valmar. One of the forklifts will be placed in Newbridge, with the remaining five going to the Senghenydd sawmill where they will replace the existing fleet and again improving site efficiency and providing a safe and ergonomic environment for the drivers.
