Alan Wheat From BSW Timber Promotes Timber Industry on BBC's The Weakest Link
Alan Wheat, (49) Director of Sales & Marketing, BSW Timber, the UK's largest sawmilling business, made an appearance on the hit BBC quiz show, The Weakest Link?, which was broadcast on Monday 1 November 2004.
Alan reached third place on the show before being voted out by his fellow contestants with presenter Anne Robinson's famous words ringing in his ears: 'You are the weakest link - goodbye'.
Speaking about the provocation he received from Anne Robinson about timber and the timber industry whilst on the show, Alan says: "The timber industry as a whole adopts a very sensible approach to the environment and reforestation. As a company, BSW takes its environmental responsibility extremely seriously and we continue to be involved and committed to the re-planting of UK sources.
"We have FSC accreditation for all UK produced products and all of our UK mills have continuous improvement targets for the percentage of UK timber sourced from certified forests. We fully support and are playing an active role in developing the Forestry Sector Sustainability Strategy.
"Using wood products encourages forestry to expand, increasing the carbon sink effect and reducing the CO2 in the atmosphere. The longer the wood stays in use, the longer the carbon sink effect of the product."
Alan gave as good as he got and on his departure left with the mortal words, "Anne just couldn't see the wood from the trees."
