A new wheelchair accessible timber deck and horse mounting area was unveiled at the Riding for the Disabled Association, Thornton Rose Group, today (4 December 2004) at its facility situated within Thornton Farm, near the village of Rosewell, Midlothian.
The timber decking for the access deck, has been part -donated by BSW Timber based in nearby Petersmuir. Over 100 deck boards and 140 American Spindle
balustrades have been used to build the 36 square metres decked area. Jordan Young, aged six years old who is a member of the group raised over ?800 towards the cost of the access deck through a sponsored ride held in June of this year.
Ian Lyall, General Manager of the Petersmuir Sawmill, says, "We were delighted that we were able to help support the group improve the quality of its facility as it provides such a worthwhile service to its riders and relies heavily on donations to ensure its survival."
Bill Johnstone, Chairman for Thornton Rose Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) says: "BSW's assistance with the timber decking means a great deal to us as it
allowed us to provide our riders with a safe area around the visitor/rider reception area.
The future of Thornton Rose rests with the people who support us with their time, expertise, commitment, money and enthusiasm. Thus ensuring we can continue to give all our present and future riders, the wonderful and beneficial experience of learning to ride."
