When You Wish Upon a Star Donation
February 1, 2005
A timber partnership is proving they're a cut above the rest.
BSW Timber in Carlisle and Travis Perkins, one of the UK's largest suppliers of timber and building materials, have donated an impressive £2,000 for the North West Charity, When Wish You Wish Upon A Star, which makes dreams come true for children with life threatening and terminal illnesses.
To mark the occasion, BSW sawmill boss David Burd will hand-over the £2,000 donated at the Carlisle facility. Carlisle-born TV presenter Paul Crone, a patron of the When You Wish Upon A Star charity, will return to his roots to collect the cheque from BSW Timber.
Paul, who works for Granada TV in Manchester but still remains a loyal Carlisle United fan said, "This is a superb donation and very much in keeping with the
generosity of Cumbrian people.
"Even with the dreadful flooding recently, the people of Carlisle still think of those less fortunate than themselves."
The When You Wish Upon A Star charity relies totally on public donations. Each year, the charity helps dozens of seriously-ill children fulfil their dreams, from swimming with dolphins in Florida to meeting their favourite pop star, or travelling to Lapland to meet Santa Claus.
It's often a time for mums, dads, brothers and sisters to spend precious time together as a family, away from hospitals and for many children, numerous operations.
Dave Burd, mill manager based at BSW Timber Carlisle sawmill, said "We are a big employer, and felt we wanted to put something back into the area. This is a fantastic charity, and we know that £2,000 is going to make a huge difference to several children?s lives."
