Artwork to be sold to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support in Dumfries & Galloway
- Howie Forest Products announces sponsorship of Art Exhibition and Sale -
More than 70 pieces of original art are to go on sale at the Macmillan Cancer Support Art Exhibition & Sale at Threave Estate, Castle Douglas from 17-31 October 2010 between 10 and 4pm. All funds raised will help the charity continue its work in Dumfries and Galloway.
Howie Forest Products, the Dalbeattie-based sawmill, is the main sponsor of the exhibition and sale which aims to raise a substantial amount for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Laura Smith and Neil Cowan of Howie Forest Products were joined at the launch of the event by Camilla Hyslop from Macmillan and artist Hazel Campbell who unveiled one of the paintings due to be exhibited and offered for sale during the two week art showcase.
This project is the first of its kind in the area and aims to repeat the success of the renowned Save the Children Art Sales at Rozelle House in Ayr and the Macmillan Art Sale in Glasgow. Each event consistently attracts high calibre and well-known businesses as sponsors and supporters.
Laura Smith, sales director at Howie Forest Products, said: "Howie Forest Products is proud to be supporting this showcase of some of the region's best artwork in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. We employ around 150 local people at our Dalbeattie mill and will be encouraging them all to visit the Art Exhibition and show their support for the work the charity does in the Dumfries and Galloway area."
Camilla Hyslop, chairperson of Macmillan's Stewartry Committee, said: "Macmillan Cancer Support is set to benefit from thousands of pounds of additional funding as a result of this art exhibition and sale. All funds raised from Macmillan Cancer Support in Dumfries and Galloway stay within the area and events like this play an invaluable role in helping us continue to provide much-needed services.
"The funds raised will go toward home visits and support for cancer sufferers and their families. We all know someone who has been affected by cancer and just a few hundred pounds can make a difference. We're grateful to Howie Forest Products for its generous sponsorship, to the local artists who have donated their paintings and to the local people who attend the exhibition."
Galloway-based artist, Hazel Campbell, whose work will be displayed at the Exhibition, said: "A number of local artists have kindly donated pieces of original work to help raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Dumfries and Galloway is a hothouse of artistic talent and the forthcoming exhibition and sale will be a great showcase of the local work."
The Howie Forest Products site at Dalbeattie was acquired by BSW Timber in November 2009 and is now the largest single-location sawmill in UK.
The artists whose work will be exhibited and available for sale are: Hazel Campbell, Gill Shreeve, Bella Green, Heather Blanchard, Claire Sutherland, William Spurway, Dougie & Margie Muego, Suzanne Stuart Davies, Anna Wright, Kathleen Woods, Pamela Grace, John Threfall, Christine Milne, Lisa Hooper, Ami Robb, Liz Dagg, Jane Syme, Maggie Savage, Stewart Hume, Richard D'Eath, Bridgit Hunter, Michael Clark, Frank Colclough, Suzan Malcolm, Ian Elliot, Jim Wylie, Margaret Ballantyne, Sandy Murphy, Moira Kelman, James Davies, Ali Burns, Silvy Weatherall, Freda Blackwood, Jane Blair, Joanna Gisbey and Jacqueline Orr.
