BSW Timber Employee cycles coast to coast for Charity

An employee from BSW Timber's Carlisle mill has completed a 174mile bike
ride for charity.
Mark Smith, of BSW, along with friends Brian Story, Lee Moore, Peter
Brough and Ian Ramsay started their charity ride at Ravenglass and
crossed the finishing line at South Shields (Hadrians Cycleway),
totalling 174 miles and raising over £1000 for charity.
The team rode for five to six hours a day with the whole trip totalling
three days to complete the route. The funds raised will now be split
between the Silloth First Responders and the Silloth Nursing Home.
Mark Smith, shift manager for BSW who lives in Silloth, wanted to do
something worthwhile for a local charity and because there were a few
keen bikers in the mill, a grueling bike ride seemed an obvious choice.
He said:
"We were all really keen to get on our bikes and help the fundraising
efforts of two worthwhile causes. We chose Silloth First Responders
because they make a huge difference responding to local emergency
situations and I think everyone has an experience close to their heart
about an elderly relative needing care which is why we decided on Silloth
Nursing Home.
"There are a few of us that are keen cyclists so we put our heads
together and came up with our coast to coast idea. It was a great
experience even if the terrain was a little tricky at times!
Alistair Sommerville, mill manager at BSW Timber Carlisle, says: "We are
all extremely proud of the excellent fundraising efforts of the team and
support that they have given to the two deserving charities."

BSW Timber is the largest sawmilling business in Great Britain producing a total of over 1,000,000m3 of sawn timber per year. Our customers operate across all industry sectors, including construction, pallets and packaging, fencing, garden and DIY products.
