| 1902 | Alexander Brownlie died followed two months later by Robert. Alexander Brownlie Jnr takes over the timber business. |
| 1903 | Sales totalled £9,400 (£564,000). |
| 1905 | Alexander Brownlie died aged 38. The business was taken over by his widow Mary and her brother John Mackay helped by Mary's son Alec Brownlie. |
| 1914 | A & R Brownlie sales reach £16,000 (£620,000) rising to £49,000 (£1.09mill) in 1918. |
| 1920 | Earlston sawmill yard purchased. |
| 1921 | Alec Brownlie returns to the business following military service. |
| 1925 | Alec Brownlie made a partner. |
| 1939 | Turnover reached £53,000 (£1.4mill). |
| 1943 | Turnover reached £194,000 (£4.1mill). |
| 1948 | A & R Brownlie achieved 100 years in business. |
| 1950 | The firm became a limited company. |
| 1953 | Sandy Brownlie started work with the company. |
| 1959 | Acquired in full D W Beattie Ltd of Leith. |
| 1964 | John Brownlie began work at Beatties. |
| 1965 | Boat of Garten mill purchased. |
| 1970 | Earlston mill modernised and Westport Timber, Linlithgow purchased. Sales turnover reached £865,000 (£6.6mill). |
| 1977 | Keilder Timber purchased. |
| 1981 | Alec Brownlie died aged 82. |
| 1981 | 75% of Western Softwoods purchased. |
| 1981 | Fort William and Newbridge sawmills are officially opened by HRH, The Prince of Wales. |
| 1982 | Petersmuir sawmill at Haddington acquired |
| 1983 | Western Softwoods acquires Bowater Forestry. |
| 1988 | Brownlies and Thomas Smith and Sons merge. |
| July 1988 | BSW Timber Plc formed comprising of Brownlie, Smiths and Western Softwoods. |
| 1991 | The new £10 million Carlisle sawmill opens. |
| 1994 | BSW headquarters moves to the old site in Earlston, Berwickshire. |
| 1994 | Sandy Brownlie awarded the CBE for services to the timber industry. |
| 1999 | Foundations are laid for BSW Latvia SIA. |
| 2000 | BSW launch their own brand of decking "Timeless Timber". |
| 2000 | BSW Latvia is commissioned. |
| 2001 | Paul Barham appointed as Chief Executive Officer. |
| 2001 | BSW Latvia SIA commences supplies into the UK market. |
| 2001 | BSW Latvia SIA is officially opened by HRH, The Prince of Wales. |
| 2002 | BSW Timber opens 3 Regional Sales Offices to further improve customer service levels |
| 2003 | BSW's Latvian sawmill wins award for the best managed company in Latvia |
| 2005 | BSW invest heavily in upgrade to Newbridge sawmill |
| 2007 | BSW acquired the former Arjo Wiggins site in Fort William and have plans for significant investment in a new sawmill |
